About the Role:

As a Nursery Practitioner, you will provide safe, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate care for children in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). You’ll play a key role in planning and delivering engaging activities, observing and recording progress, and supporting each child’s individual learning journey. Working closely with colleagues and families, you will help create a positive, inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the daily care, supervision, and wellbeing of children, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment at all times.
• Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities and experiences in line with EYFS, promoting learning through play.
• Carry out regular observations and assessments, accurately recording children’s progress and informing next steps in their development.
• Implement effective behaviour management strategies, promoting positive behaviour and emotional resilience.
• Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection, following nursery policies and procedures and reporting concerns promptly.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with children, providing consistent emotional support and encouragement.
• Communicate regularly with parents and carers, sharing updates on children’s progress and supporting home–nursery partnerships.
• Contribute to the organisation of the room, including setting up activities, maintaining resources, and ensuring a clean and orderly environment.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience working with young children in an early years or nursery setting.
• Strong understanding of child development and how to support learning at different stages.
• Solid knowledge and practical application of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Good working knowledge of the EYFS framework and how to implement it in daily practice.
• Confident in carrying out observations and assessments to inform planning and track progress.
• Skilled in managing behaviour positively and consistently within a group setting.
• Clear, confident communication skills with both children and adults.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, using initiative and managing time well.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience working with children with additional needs or SEND.
• Familiarity with digital or paper-based learning journals and assessment tools.
• Experience contributing to planning meetings and curriculum development.
• Knowledge of local early years support services and agencies.

Qualifications:

• Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Early Years, Childcare, or equivalent (required).
• Paediatric First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Safeguarding and child protection training (up to date or willingness to refresh).
• Evidence of ongoing professional development in early years education (preferred).
