About the Role:
As Nursery Manager, you will have full operational responsibility for the nursery, overseeing day-to-day running and long-term development. You will ensure the delivery of a robust Early Years curriculum, maintain high standards of safeguarding and compliance, and manage resources effectively to support sustainable growth. Your leadership will directly influence the quality of practice, staff performance, and the reputation of the setting with families and regulators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the daily operation of the nursery, ensuring smooth running across all rooms and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Oversee planning, delivery, and evaluation of the Early Years curriculum, ensuring it meets EYFS requirements and supports each child’s learning and development.
- Maintain rigorous safeguarding and child protection practices, acting as a key point of contact for concerns and ensuring prompt, appropriate action.
- Ensure full compliance with Ofsted and regulatory standards, including preparation for inspections and implementation of recommendations.
- Manage nursery budgets, fees, and financial reporting, monitoring income and expenditure to meet financial targets.
- Implement and monitor health and safety procedures, conducting regular risk assessments and ensuring a safe environment for children, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records and administrative systems, including children’s files, staff documentation, and statutory registers.
- Lead, supervise, and support the staff team through regular meetings, performance reviews, and clear communication of expectations.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in a senior role within an Early Years or nursery setting, with responsibility for staff and day-to-day operations.
- Strong knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and experience in curriculum planning and assessment.
- Demonstrable leadership skills with the ability to motivate, manage, and develop a diverse staff team.
- In-depth understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures, with confidence in managing concerns and referrals.
- Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks and Ofsted requirements, including experience of inspections.
- Experience in budgeting and financial management within a nursery or similar setting.
- Competence in health and safety management, including risk assessments and incident reporting.
- Strong organisational, record keeping, and administrative skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience implementing quality improvement plans and driving continuous improvement across a nursery.
- Previous responsibility for staff training programmes and professional development initiatives.
- Familiarity with nursery management software and digital record-keeping systems.
- Experience building strong relationships with parents and external agencies to support children’s outcomes.
- Knowledge of inclusive practice and supporting children with additional needs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education or Childcare (or equivalent) required.
- Higher-level Early Years qualification (Level 5 or degree in Early Childhood Studies or similar) preferred.
- Recognised safeguarding and child protection training, appropriate to a designated lead role.
- Training or certification in health and safety relevant to childcare settings preferred.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in Early Years leadership and management advantageous.
