  • Observe, assess, and record children’s progress, maintaining accurate documentation and learning journals.
  • Implement safeguarding and child protection procedures, promptly reporting concerns to the designated lead.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised environment, following health, safety, and hygiene protocols at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers, sharing regular updates on their child’s wellbeing and development.
  • Work collaboratively with the nursery team, contributing ideas and supporting colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Assist with routines such as meals, toileting, and rest times, promoting independence and positive behaviour.

Key Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of child development and how to support learning through play.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices within an early years setting.
  • Practical understanding of the EYFS framework and how to implement it in daily activities.
  • Proven ability to plan, deliver, and adapt age-appropriate activities for children aged 0–5.
  • Confident communication skills with children, parents, and colleagues, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy nursery environment.
  • Awareness of health, safety, and basic first aid principles in relation to young children.
  • Competent record-keeping skills, with attention to detail in documentation and children’s learning records.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working in a nursery or early years setting in a similar practitioner role.
  • Familiarity with a range of observation and assessment methods used in early years.
  • Ability to support children with additional needs in partnership with external professionals.
  • Confidence in contributing to planning meetings and sharing ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Basic IT skills for updating digital records and communication systems.

Qualifications:

  • Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education, Childcare, or equivalent.
  • Paediatric First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Safeguarding and child protection training relevant to early years settings.
  • Additional early years or child development training/certificates (preferred but not essential).

If you are committed to high-quality early years care and education and want a permanent role where you can make a lasting difference, we encourage you to apply.
