About the Role:
As a Nursery Practitioner, you will play a key role in supporting the learning and development of children in line with the EYFS framework. You will create engaging, age-appropriate activities, build strong relationships with children and families, and ensure a safe, inclusive environment. Your work will directly contribute to each child’s progress, wellbeing, and readiness for their next stage of learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging EYFS activities that promote all areas of child development.
- Observe, assess, and record children’s progress, using this information to inform future planning.
- Support children’s personal, social, and emotional development, promoting positive behaviour and independence.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment, following all safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
- Build positive, professional relationships with parents and carers, providing regular updates on their child’s progress.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistency of practice and a cohesive learning experience for all children.
- Support key children through the key person system, ensuring their individual needs and interests are recognised and met.
- Contribute to nursery meetings, planning sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience working with young children in a nursery or early years setting.
- Strong knowledge of child development and the EYFS framework.
- Demonstrable experience in observation, assessment, and planning for individual and group learning.
- Confident in managing behaviour positively and consistently in line with nursery policies.
- Excellent communication skills with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures and responsibilities.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, sharing ideas and supporting colleagues.
- Organised, reliable, and able to manage time and documentation effectively.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience as a key person with responsibility for individual children’s learning journeys.
- Familiarity with digital learning journals or electronic assessment systems.
- Experience supporting children with additional needs or EAL.
- Participation in continuous professional development related to early years education.
Qualifications:
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Early Years, Childcare, or equivalent (required).
- Paediatric First Aid certificate (preferred).
- Safeguarding and Child Protection training (required or willingness to complete prior to or shortly after starting).
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (preferred).
