About the Role:
As a Nursery Practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality care and learning experiences for children in line with the EYFS framework. You will contribute to a safe, stimulating environment that supports each child’s developmental needs and fosters their curiosity and confidence. Working closely with colleagues, you will help ensure the nursery maintains outstanding standards of practice and safeguarding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day care for children, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met in a nurturing environment.
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate activities that support all areas of learning and development in line with EYFS.
- Observe children’s play and interactions, record assessments, and contribute to individual learning plans.
- Promote positive behaviour and implement consistent, supportive guidance strategies.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, and hygiene, including safe use of equipment and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Build strong, professional relationships with parents and carers, sharing regular updates on children’s progress and wellbeing.
- Support children with routines such as meals, toileting, and rest times, encouraging independence and self-care skills.
- Work collaboratively with the nursery team to ensure smooth daily operations and a cohesive approach to care and education.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience working with children in an early years or nursery setting.
- Strong understanding of child development and how to support individual needs.
- Working knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures in an early years environment.
- Solid understanding of the EYFS curriculum and how to implement it in practice.
- Confident communication skills with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to manage behaviour positively and consistently, promoting a calm, respectful atmosphere.
- Competence in observing, recording, and assessing children’s development.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety, and hygiene in all aspects of nursery practice.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing ideas and supporting colleagues.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in a London-based or similarly diverse early years setting.
- Familiarity with using digital systems for recording observations and assessments.
- Experience supporting children with additional needs or English as an additional language.
- Skills in planning themed activities, including arts, music, outdoor learning, or sensory play.
- Participation in continuous professional development related to early years practice.
Qualifications:
- Level 3 (or above) Early Years qualification or equivalent.
- Paediatric First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Safeguarding and child protection training relevant to early years.
- Additional early years or childcare training (e.g. behaviour management, SEN, communication and language) is advantageous.
