About the Role:

As a Room Leader, you will take day-to-day responsibility for the effective running of your room, ensuring a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for all children in your care. You will lead by example, driving high standards of practice in line with the EYFS and supporting your team to deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Your work will directly influence children’s progress, parent satisfaction, and the overall quality of provision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the daily operation of the room, ensuring routines, activities, and transitions run smoothly and safely.
• Coordinate and support the room team to deliver high-quality, child-centred learning experiences in line with the EYFS.
• Plan, implement, and review a balanced curriculum that promotes all areas of children’s development and school readiness.
• Oversee effective observation, assessment, and recording of children’s progress, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
• Promote and maintain positive behaviour and a calm, inclusive learning environment through consistent behaviour management strategies.
• Ensure robust safeguarding and welfare practices are followed at all times, responding promptly to any concerns.
• Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with parents and carers, providing regular feedback and updates on children’s development.
• Organise resources, staffing, and room layouts to maximise learning opportunities and maintain a safe, tidy environment.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience working in an early years setting with responsibility for a group of children.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, support, and develop colleagues.
• In-depth knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and its practical application.
• Demonstrable experience in child safeguarding and welfare, including adherence to policies and procedures.
• Competence in classroom and behaviour management within an early years context.
• Experience in curriculum planning and implementation for children in the early years.
• Proficiency in observing, assessing, and tracking children’s development using appropriate frameworks and tools.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage a busy room environment.
• Strong communication skills, with confidence in engaging with parents, carers, and colleagues.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in a Room Leader or senior practitioner role within a nursery or early years setting.
• Familiarity with digital systems for planning, observation, and assessment.
• Experience supporting children with additional needs or working alongside external professionals.
• Involvement in quality improvement initiatives such as Ofsted inspections or internal audits.

Qualifications:

• Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years Education/Childcare (or equivalent) – required.
• Paediatric First Aid certification – required or willingness to obtain.
• Safeguarding and Child Protection training – required and up to date.
• Additional early years or leadership training/qualifications – desirable.
