About the Role:
As Room Leader, you will take day-to-day responsibility for the smooth running of your room, ensuring a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for all children. You will lead and support a small team of practitioners, embedding best practice in line with the EYFS and the setting’s policies. Your work will directly influence children’s development, staff performance, and the overall quality of provision.

Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the daily operation of the room, ensuring routines, activities, and transitions run smoothly and safely.
* Plan, implement, and review age-appropriate learning experiences in line with the EYFS, tailored to individual children’s needs and interests.
* Provide clear direction, guidance, and support to room staff, including modelling best practice and delegating tasks effectively.
* Maintain rigorous safeguarding and child protection standards, responding promptly and appropriately to any concerns.
* Manage behaviour positively, promoting consistent boundaries and supporting children’s social and emotional development.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with parents and carers, providing regular updates on children’s progress and well-being.
* Oversee accurate observations, assessments, and learning journeys, ensuring records are up to date and inform planning.
* Ensure all documentation, registers, and room records are completed correctly and in line with regulatory and setting requirements.

Key Requirements:
* Proven experience working in an early years setting with responsibility for a group of children.
* Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and its practical application in daily planning and provision.
* Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures, with the ability to follow policies confidently.
* Experience supporting or guiding colleagues, with the confidence to lead a small team.
* Effective behaviour management skills, using positive strategies to support children’s emotional and social development.
* Confident communication skills with children, colleagues, parents, and external professionals.
* Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and documentation.
* Ability to work flexibly within a rota and adapt to the changing needs of the room and setting.

Desirable Skills:
* Previous experience as a Room Leader, Senior Practitioner, or similar supervisory role in early years.
* Experience contributing to setting-wide curriculum planning and quality improvement initiatives.
* Familiarity with digital systems for observations, assessments, and parent communication.
* Experience supporting children with additional needs in partnership with external agencies.

Qualifications:
* Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years/Childcare (or equivalent) – required.
* Up-to-date Paediatric First Aid certification – preferred.
* Safeguarding and Child Protection training to at least Level 2 – required (or willingness to update on appointment).
* Evidence of ongoing professional development in early years education, leadership, or behaviour management – preferred.
